The Ventico C7.1/1106TA Explosion-Protected Diesel Engine System (DES) delivers powerful, compliant performance tailored for demanding underground coal mining environments. Built on the globally trusted Caterpillar C7.1 / Perkins 1106TA platform, this system produces up to 129 kW of reliable output while meeting the most rigorous safety and emissions requirements under AS 3584 and MDG 43.
At the heart of the package is a patented Catalysed Diesel Particulate Filter (CDPF) — a fully passive filtration system that removes diesel particulate matter (DPM) without active regeneration, helping improve underground air quality while reducing ventilation demand and complexity.
The system features Ventico’s patented “turbo-in-a-box” design, which houses a standard turbocharger inside a certified enclosure. This innovation reduces surface temperature risks, and eliminates reportable failure points it also allows for a more cost effective replacement standard turbo to be fitted — making it safer, more compact, and easier to service in explosion-protected environments.
The system is controlled by Ventico’s SEMS engine management system, providing IECEx-certified shutdown protection, fault monitoring, and automatic data logging for engine activity, shutdowns, and diagnostic history — giving mine operators full compliance traceability.
Designed for maximum flexibility, the C7.1/1106TA DES is fully retrofittable into LS190, LS170, Coaltram, Juganaut, Eimco 130, and 913-6 platforms, making it the ideal solution for both new builds and repowering existing machines. Its compact, high-output design enables older small-frame units like the 913-6 to be brought back into service affordably, offering compliant, low-cost solutions for utility and development fleets. It also serves as the standard powerplant for the Ventico CV1050.
